Mushu
Hayden Flint
PERSONALITY Hayden has always been overconfident, in the sense that he believes in himself absolutely and completely, and is often cocky when it comes to situations. He rushes headfirst into battles that often he has no place in, and he fights fiercely to protect himself and his loved ones. In that way he’s also incredibly loyal to many - especially historically to the Fa family. Charming, and easy to like, Hayden’s found himself fitting in easily among the people of Storybrooke. However, he’s incredibly impulsive and headstrong. Fear is not usually something that stops Hayden from his actions - act first think later has always been his motto. And to be fair, that was something that was very important when he was a part of the war alongside Mulan with the Great Emperor. Hayden is not indecisive in anyway, he knows what he wants and he will get it, you can guarantee that. He’s a joker. A big part of his life has been spent trying to make those around him laugh, as well as a physical guardian, he’s a spiritual guardian and Mushu encourages humour in every way. He likes to laugh a lot himself, and he’s always cracking jokes, teasing, and generally trying to inject a little comedy into darker situations. Despite his good traits, Hayden can be very selfish. Overall he has a good heart, but in the past he’s been known to think of himself and to act in a way that saves his own skin and puts others in danger. He’s always trying to combat this part of him, but it’s difficult and he can struggle not to empower himself in a way that endangers others. Lastly, Mushu can be frustrating. He’s hard to pin down and make follow through with anything. He won’t agree to anything unless he knows the terms and conditions and he can still be a bit flighty. Generally, Hayden is uncommitted and he’s not necessarily someone you can rely to have your back. He tries, but he’s not great at it. HISTORY For as long as Mushu can remember, dragons have been guardians to the Fa family. He was once a great dragon, one of the most respected guardians of the ancestors of the Fa family. But then, Mushu failed in his duty. During battle, Mulan lost Fa Deng, and distracted him from his task at hand. He was savagely killed and decapitated, and as such Mushu was demoted. His task was small, no longer a full guardian, and nor a great dragon, but his ability to create fire was retained. He was tasked with ringing the gongs for the ancestors. Once more he screwed up, with Mulan. Mushu was supposed to have woken a great dragon, a real guardian, to follow Mulan to battle, but instead he followed her. He acted as her guardian, going to war with her, helping her to receive honours from the Emperor. For Mushu this was almost a great awakening - a time for him to realise what he was actually supposed to be. He too received honours upon returning home - the guardians reinstated him but this didn’t last long. As Mulan’s guardian, Mushu should have been following the fierce warrior and advising her as a good guardian does, but he got…sidetracked. Distracted even. The Enchanted Forest was full of delights and excitement for Mushu and he enjoyed watching magic. He couldn’t return. Never able to go back to the Fa family, fear that he was already banished just drove Mushu deeper into the forest. And then the curse came. Brought to Storybrooke as all others were, Mushu found himself as a man named Hayden Flint who owned a fireworks shop. Not liking to be involved in the drama that the town has been through, Hayden has mostly kept to himself in Storybrooke. RP SAMPLE The bright colours surrounded the shop - rockets, catherine wheels, sparklers, fireworks of every shape and size. Hayden had just about anything you wanted. It was the perfect shop for him, amusing that a fire breathing dragon worked in a shop that would explode were he to make the wrong move. But for the first time in a while, Mushu had great control over his fire breathing - he’d found since he’d been in Storybrooke and magic had been returned, it had been easy to work. Unlike within the Enchanted Forest, with the Fa family, there he’d been unable to use it when he wanted to, and at other times his ability had worked amazingly. Running a hand through his hair, Hayden stepped towards the boy examining the sparklers, and gave a grin taking one from his hand. Cupping a hand around the top, he blew softly, sparks flying and igniting the metal. The bright sparks started and Hayden handed it back to the child who waved it gently around. Hayden stepped back a grin on his face, ”Whoa there, easy.” He laughed a little, before taking it as it fizzled out. The child seemed overjoyed and Hayden was glad to have made him happy. ”Kid, I’ve got to tell you, that’s the only free one - get your parents to pay if you want anymore.” He laughed, heading back over to the counter. He felt truly at home here. No more was he in a dragon’s body, he was a fully fledged man, and there were no expectations upon him. He didn’t have to give advice, or be a guardian. He wasn’t capable of that anymore. That Mushu was completely gone, and Hayden Flint, fireworks extraordinaire in his place. And he was happy. |
